As is evidenced above, Kyle Pruett was an outstanding athlete; especially in baseball. In addition to the above honors, Kyle was recognized as the Jonesboro Sun Male Athlete of the Week in 2000 and 2001.
Pruett was a dominate pitcher for the Clay County Cougars. In 2000 he had 19 strikeouts against Piggott. Also, in 2000 he had 15 strikeouts against Riverside in the Regional tournament. In 2001 he was 10-2 for the year with six shutouts in 81 innings pitched, notching a total of 141 strikeouts and allowing only 15 walks. With only eight (8) earned runs for the year, his ERA was .83.
The following are taken from newspaper articles and reflect some of the accomplishments of Kyle Pruett.
CCT-D, May 2001…Pruett hurled a two-hit performance…he faced only 17 batters, striking out six and walking none…Pruett dominated on the mound…Pruett gave up one hit in five innings while striking out six and walking none.
CCT-D, May 2001…Pruett totally overmatched the young Bobcats, allowing only two hits and striking out 11…"He's dominant," Rector coach David Hendrix said of his senior hurler, who now stands 8-0 for the season…"When he is on the mound we are a lot better," the coach added… meanwhile, Pruett was mowing down the Bobcats, not allowing a base runner through the first three innings while striking out seven.
CCT-D, May 2001… the Cougars had no problem with BIC, cruising to an 8-0 win behind Pruett’s arm. Pruett fanned 16 while scattering just five hits.
CCT-D, April 2001… Pruett gave up a total of only two hits to the Mustangs in Monday morning's first round game…Pruett stuck out 16 Mustangs in the contest and walked three…in the Cougars' final regular season game of the year, the Rector boys shutout Marmaduke, 7-0…Pruett was the winning pitcher striking out 15 in a complete-game two-hitter.
In addition to high school baseball, Pruett also played American Legion ball for the three years…"he's very strong and talented," his American legion coach Clay Mammon said. "He'll do well."…last year Pruett was 6-2 for the American Legion team with two saves and boasted an ERA of 2.02 in 55 1/3 innings pitched.
PARAGOULD DAILY PRESS…Kyle Pruett was about as close to “perfect” as you can get...the Dr. Pepper hurler gave up only one hit…struck out seven and walked no one in his complete-game victory, finishing with a one-hitter…he missed a perfect game by a bloop hit in the second inning.
