DON SINKO RHS 1957
In the opinion of Jess Bucy, Don Sinko was the most underrated athlete from Rector. Bucy said the following regarding Sinko: “Don Sinko was an outstanding player with excellent statistics. Unfortunately for him, he did not play on a team that played in the State tournament. When he was a sophomore, there were only two classifications and Rector was in the largest one. Don was small but extremely quick and may have been the best ball handler that I ever coached in high school or in college. He was the first of my Rector players to play in college, and he was sound in every phase of the game. In my first year here, he was a sophomore starter on a team that won 25 games and lost in the District tournament by one point to Greene County Tech. Our teams the next two (2) years were not as good and teams frequently concentrated on stopping him; however, as of 1969, he ranked 3rd in career points per game, and in his senior year, he averaged 24.1 points per game which also ranked 3rd in RHS history. He also played baseball.”
