JIMMY GREENWAY CCC 1992
Jimmy Greenway was an outstanding baseball and basketball player. He was especially good in baseball. In his senior year in baseball he accomplished the following: In the State tournament Jimmy was selected as the Most Valuable Player (MVP) on the only RHS or CCC team to ever win a senior high state championship.
Jimmy was the winning pitcher in two of the three state tournament games, including an opening 4-3 win over defending state champion Smackover, a team which was ranked number one in the state for most of the year. In the game, Jimmy allowed three (3) hits and struck out seven (7); had two (2) hits, scored a run and had an RBI.
In the semifinal win over Bergman, he had two (2) hits and three (3) RBI. Jimmy was the winning pitcher in the championship game against Hackett. In addition, he had two (2) hits and two (2) RBI.
He was 6 for 11 [.546] at the plate in the state tournament play with six (6) RBI.
Jimmy was the team’s MVP, All-District, All-Regional and All-State.
In the district tournament semifinal win over Bay, Jimmy pitched a complete game victory and hit a grand-slam home run. He was selected as MVP in the district tournament.
Coach Richard Huggins said that Jimmy’s best game of the season was 9-3 regional semifinal win over Marked Tree the number two ranked team in the state. In that game, Jimmy pitched a three-hitter and had three (3) hits. CCC won the finals of the regional by beating McCrory 24-5 and Jimmy went 2-4 with three (3) RBI.
In Jimmy’s junior year in baseball he accomplished the following:
*All-District in baseball.
*Led team in hitting with a .492 average. Most outstanding hitter on team.
*Pitched a two-hitter in District semifinal win over Salem and had two (2) hits at the plate.
In his sophomore year in baseball he pitched a one-hitter against Piggott in 4-0 win. In addition, he was the leading hitter on the team.
In his freshman year he was the leading hitter on baseball team with .385 average.
Jimmy had an equally impressive career in basketball at CCC as evidenced by the following:
Senior year
*All-Conference, All-Regional and All-NEA.
*Helped lead team to first regional tournament in seven years.
*Outstanding Defensive Player *Leading rebounder on the team.
*Team won Clay County tournament and he scored 17 points in finals against Corning and 21 in semifinals against Piggott.
Junior year
*Scored 34 points in three NEA games. *Scored 26 points against Stanford.
*Defensive charge leader on team.
Sophomore year
*Led basketball team in assists.
